They ushered in a new era in Soul music, & and they’re easily one of the most heavily sampled entities in hip hop music! Let me remind you that they sang live with three part harmony, without all of the studio tricks used today!
The ushers of Philadelphia Soul, yeah, The Delfonics!

After doing an acoustic show at another venue earlier(a NSC event), we went to support the lovely ConyaDoss at @the shrine. In the middle of her set she asked where the singers are, my team gets her attention and points at me( in the middle of my second Jack Daniels, two fingers & two cubes).
I go on stage and do an impromptu variation of my song “So Amazing” with her and the band, great times in Chicago!

"We need to get in deep,
Funky deep, stanky deep,
Down deep (Maceo: DOWN DEEP!!!)”. And then the groove changes keys!!!
Do yourself a favor, listen to some James Brown before you listen to anything negative or demeaning, preferably “Soul Power” or “We’re Gonna Have A Funky Good Time!”
It gets your day goin a lot brighter than anything else!
Have a great day, soulful people!

She became mute for almost five years(after the murder of the man that raped her at 8 yrs old). After high school she supported her son as a business manager for prostitutes, laborer, dancer and later a prostitute.
After a short marriage, she gained fame as “The Calypso Lady,” dancing, singing and recording an album. All the while developing an affinity for ALL of the great literary minds of history. She ha no formal training at the time, just making a way out of no way and living an amazing life that would later be put into two written by her
Oh, all of this happened in her life before she was 25!
Before she became THE literary, public speaking, civil/global/women’s rights activist and icon, she was Margarite. #icon #85YearsYoung #WhatAnAmazingLifeSoFar #soulpower #ButWeCallHerMaya #RoleModelForEVERYHustler #defygravity #NationalPoetryMonth
